If a tiny thought is the mother of all our inventions, then what is the source of all our thoughts? Well, I have been working in food and beverage industry since last 24 years and I believe that there is a lot of potential to improve productivity in all sectors within our industry. I have wondered for long as to what I can do to make the difference. About 20 years ago, in one of the training sessions, I had heard about ‘holistic growth’ and its importance in our life. I probably learnt to implement it in my life 5 years later, when I started working with one of my previous managers and a great mentor (‘Barton Porter’). Along with ‘holistic growth’, I learnt the importance of ‘learning’ and ‘listening’ from him. Barton has immense experience in Packaging and very good understanding of how the things work and how one should have a mind of ‘librarian’ to organize information and things. After taking inspiration from him and his knowledge, I thought of building a site that will help people in the food and beverage industry. My brother (an IT professional) and I came up with a directory based site. One of my close friend helped quite a bit and we approached hundreds of companies to put their products and services on that site. We worked on it for about 4 years, although that venture didn’t go very well and we weren’t able to get much traction. There were multiple reasons for it and I think this failure made us more resolute and has provided us a lot of learning. This time around I thought of learning to program myself to see as to what exactly is involved in building something that I want to do. In the last 6 months since I have been working on this, I have realized that anyone can build a functioning site that can possibly help a lot of people. This has been made possible by the great amount of information and help that is available on the internet and vibrant IT community. This all makes me wonder as to why is it that for people like us in Food and Beverage industry, there aren’t as many resources available for sharing knowledge and experiences. Why are we dependent upon some key internal resources or suppliers, consultants, whilst everyone in the industry goes through similar issues / productivity improvement challenges? How empowered people feel within our industry and can it be improved? Well, I will like to have answers of the above questions, and I am trying to do my bit by soft launching this site (for beta testing). I hope that the information in this site will be of some help to people like me and professionals within our industry will become a part of this effort. May be we can do our bit by adding, updating and sharing our experiences and information on this site to help each other. I am aiming for the below objectives at this stage, although not sure how these will pan out… 1. Help people for searching potential customers, suppliers within food and beverage industry in Australia. 2. Try and improve productivity in our industry by improving transparency. 3. Keep on doing my bit for my own growth needs, so that I have minimal regrets when I am at my deathbed. My details are provided below if somebody wants to get involved OR will like to know more...
